[Commercial ends and the screen goes to the stylized logo of the EEHL Tonight program. The logo fades away, showing the show’s anchor, Reme LaBouche, sitting behind a desk.]
LaBouche: Welcome back to EEHL Tonight. The Montreal Canadiens made an announcement early this morning that they would be having a press conference today. There haven’t been any solid rumours about the subject matter for the conference, but we are taking you there now.
[The feed shifts to a room in which a number of media are sitting, looking at the table at the head of the room. Seated in the centre of the table, behind a microphone, is Canadiens GM Michael Tokunaga. To his right is the former head coach of the Canadiens, Michel Therrien, as well as Canadiens Owner Geoff Molson. To his left are Assistant GMs Larry Carriere and Rick Dudley.]
Tokunaga: Good morning. I am here today to announce that we have higher a new head coach for the Montreal Canadiens, and that I will be focussing solely on the duties of the GM. Our new coach is, as you can see, Michel Therrien. This is probably a shock to many of you out there, but Coach Therrien originally left us because he had some personal things to work out.
[Tokunaga quickly glances over at Geoff Molson, then turns back to his microphone.]
Tokunaga: I am happy to say that Coach Therrien is back in the fold with us, ready to take us to the next level. We have had a few bumps in the road this season, but this roster is the most talented one that I have seen in my short time here, and I am very excited for what the coach will be able to do with them.
[Michel Therrien clears his throat.]
Therrien: Thank you, Mike.
[If anyone paid attention closely, Tokunaga grimaces a bit.]
Therrien: I am very happy to be back, as this has always been home to me. I see a lot of great potential with our team, and am excited for what we can accomplish, with the players we have. I think that we have all the pieces we need this year. There have been rumours in the past that I left because Mike and I did not see eye to eye, but I can tell you all that we understand our roles perfectly. I know that we are all focussed on the goals that are laid out to us by Mr. Molson. And we will do our best to reach those goals. I will be taking over the team immediately, and we will get to work as soon as this conference is over.
[Members of the media start to throw questions at the figures seated at the table. Michael Tokunaga waves his hand.]
Tokunaga: Sorry, we will not be answering questions today. Again, I am happy that we have a dedicated coach again, and look forward to watching the team on the ice. Thank you.
[Tokunaga promptly stands up and walks out. The rest of the table linger a bit longer before starting to file out. Michel Therrien has a big smile on his face. The screen fades back to the EEHL Tonight studio.]
LaBouche: Well, there you have it, huge news out of Montreal today. Michel Therrien is once again the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, and seems very happy to be back. We will see what this means for the Canadiens as we move into the second half of the season.
