The Vancouver Canucks are proud to announce that they have hired Michael Tokunaga as the team's General Manager, and John Hynes as the team's Head Coach. This fills the vacancies left with the departure of Jim Benning and Willie Desjardins at the end of last season.
Michael Tokunaga comes to Vancouver after three years as the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens. He built a team in Montreal that was near the top of the NHL's standings in all three years before leaving the Canadiens in the past week. During his time in Montreal, he also served as the team's head coach for a season.
John Hynes most recently was the Head Coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penquins. He was extememly successful with the Penguins, leading the team to the playoffs every year he coached, despite numberous line-up changes. Previous to that, he spent six seasons as a head coach with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, posting an overall record of 216-113-19-9, following by two years with the US Under-17 Development Team where he posted a 42-17-6 record.
