From the associated press

Alex Ovechkin shocked the world last season when he shattered Gretzky's 50 goals in 39 games record by doing it in 32 games. Apparently he was determined to do better.

Ovi scored his 50th in the teams 31st game of the season to beat his record by one game. The goal came off a signature slapshot from the point to beat the Leaf's Jhonas Enroth glove side.

But believe it or not that wasn't the highlight of the week, that would come in the next game against the Islanders.

Ovechkin followed up the new 50 goal mark by score SIX goals in two periods against the Islanders. The freight train was slowed down in the 3rd but he walked out with 56 goals in 32 games. When asked about the record, Ovechkin only had to say "Ask me after Stanley Cup"

With the Islanders shell-shocked 11-2 in the game and the Flyers publicly looking to ship Kari Lehtonen out of town after several lack-lustre performances this season, GM/Head Coach Mike Sawaryn was seen well after the game having discussions with Garth Snow. Let the rumors begin.

There isn't an emoticon on here that accurately describes my reaction to either of those stats.

Ri-dic-u-lous.
