The following is a presentation of CCB sports
Don Maclean: Hello fans and welcome to a delayed edition of CCB Sports Hockey Night In Canada Presents. I’m your official for the evening Don Maclean, because I used to be a referee. And joining me as always is the lovable Ronald Cherry, Ron?
Ron Cherry: YOU KNOW WHAT DON? I DON’T LIKE THIS DELAYED THURSDAY THING, IT’S LIKE WE’RE RUNNING ON SOME DIRTY PINKO EUROPEAN SCHEDULE. HOCKEY IS SATURDAY IN TORONTA, SOMETIMES MONTREAL, BUT OTHER THAN THAT AS FAR AS I KNOW HOCKEY SHUTS DOWN DON!
Don Maclean: Whoa, offside there Ron! Anyways, lets not delay our guest any further, head coach of the quick starting Philadelphia Flyers, here’s Craig Berube, Craig welcome to the show.
Craig Berube: Thanks for having me.
Don Maclean: Let me drop the puck for the opening faceoff question, which as an experienced referee I could do. What are your thoughts on your new players and the 4-0 start your team is off to?
Craig Berube: Well our GM did a great job bringing in the new guys and really giving us more balance I think. We were a little forward heavy last year and it showed with the injuries in the playoffs, but now I think we’ve got the balance to go a little further this season.
As for the start, well Ovi as usual has carried the play when he’s on the ice, Gallagher and Galchenyuk continue to be dangerous, and our back end even though we’ve given up a lot of goals, they just go out and get those goals right back.
Ron Cherry: SPEAKING OF THE NEW GUYS, YOU’VE GOT THAT SUBBAN KID, LIKE THE WAY HE PLAYS BUT WITH HIS BRASHNESS, THE LOUD RAP MUSIC, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH…PEOPLE LIKE HIM?
Craig Berube: People..like..him?
Don Maclean: Whoa, timeout Ron, that was offside again! Delayed penalty!
Ron Cherry: YOU BOTH KNOW WHAT I MEANT, PHYSICAL DEFENSEMEN WHO PLAY LOTS OF MINUTES, HOW DO YOU KEEP HIS MINUTES UNDER CONTROL?
Craig Berube: Oh. Not where I thought you were going. Anyways, PK is a professional, and honestly because they’re on different pairings, if he’s out too long, Karlsson is going to be pissed and PK will hear about it. So far I’ve had no issues with his ice time but if it starts creeping up we’ll be having a discussion.
Don Maclean: With so many coaching changes around the NHL, what’s your relationship like with Mike Sawaryn, and do you feel comfortable in your job?
Craig Berube: I think we have a great relationship, he’s quite hilarious. He’s always joking about me getting fired if we lose one game this season, we have some fun together
Don Maclean: He jokes about firing you?
Craig Berube: Oh yeah, he’s always saying how he was too busy last season to really pay attention to the coach and was more concerned about the players, so I better not lose a game or I’m in trouble. He’s not the laughing type, more of a straight man when it comes to comedy so I’m usually laughing but yeah, we get along great. I look forward to many years of us working together.
Ron Cherry: YOU KNOW SOMETHING? LOOK. LOOK. LOOK. LOOK. LOOK. THAT GUY ISN’T AN ONTARIAN KID, I DON’T EVEN REMEMBER HIM PLAYING FOR THE OILERS, AND HERE HE IS BRINGING IN AMERICANS, EUROPEANS, AND...YOU KNOW...OTHER PEOPLE, I DON’T KNOW WHERE THIS TEAM IS GOING, AND WHY WE’RE TALKING ON THURSDAY
Don Maclean: Ok, Ron is confused enough, maybe we should just call it a day. Thanks Craig Berube, and thank you Canada for tuning in. We’ll see you again soon.
